General Information
Provides blood type (Rh positive or negative) only. The Blood group and Rh type of expectant mothers may indicate potential for hemolytic disease of the fetus/newborn. Rh typing is used to determine Rh immune globulin candidacy for prenatal and postpartum patients.

Specimen Collection / Processing Instructions
Lavender - The specimen should be tested as soon as possible after collection. If testing is delayed, EDTA specimens should be stored at 2 to 8°C.

Unacceptable Specimen Conditions
Grossly hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic samples. Frozen samples. Bacterial contamination.
Limitations
Variable testing results may be observed with partial antigens, which are rare variants of the D antigen.
