2 EDTA + Red

Specimen Collection / Processing Instructions

Serum samples should not be taken from patients receiving therapy with high biotin doses (i.e. >5 mg/day) until at least 8 hours following the last biotin administration.
EDTA tubes: Invert tube 8 to 10 times immediately after collection

Minimum Sample Volume

Rub/Hep/Trep: 1 ml serum
CBC: 0.5 ml
Blood Bank: 6mL

Unacceptable Specimen Conditions

Grossly hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic samples. Frozen samples. Bacterial contamination.

Limitations

Abnormal plasma proteins, cold autoagglutinins, positive direct antiglobulin test, and, in some cases, bacteremia may interfere with test interpretation.
