General Information

Useful For: As an adjunct in the diagnosis of medical conditions associated with increased bone turnover
Monitoring effectiveness of antiresorptive therapy in patients treated for osteopenia, osteoporosis, Paget disease, or other metabolic bone disorders
For monitoring therapy, a baseline specimen should be collected prior to initiation of therapy. Subsequent specimens for comparison should be collected at the same time of day as the baseline specimen.

Random Collection: Collect second-morning void urine in a screw-cap, urine collection container without preservative.


Timed Collection:


Collect urine for 24 hours in a preservative-free amber polyethylene 24-hr urine collection container.
Refrigerate sample during collection.
Record the collection interval.

0.5 mL

Required Information

24 hour collections must provide the duration and total volume collected.
