General Information

The detection of Rubeola (Measles) IgG class antibodies in human sera by the FDA approved LIAISON® Rubeola IgG Assay. Results are reported as either:



  • Evidence of past infection (or immunization) with Rubeola (measles) virus.

  • No evidence of past infection (or immunization) with Rubeola (measles) virus.

Container Type

 5 mL blood in Gold Top SST.


Also acceptable: 5 mL blood in Orange RST or Red Top tube.

Specimen Type

Blood, only serum may be used

1 mL serum

Specimen Collection / Processing Instructions

Harvest serum from whole blood within 24 hours of collection. Serum may be stored at 2-8°C (ice pack) for up to 7 days. Freeze at -20°C or colder for long term storage. Do not freeze/thaw.


Outside Laboratories: Ship samples on Dry Ice, do not freeze/thaw. If freezer and/or dry ice is not available, ship immediately at 2-8°C (ice pack), shipment time must not to exceed 7 days from collection. Samples stored at 2-8°C greater than 7 days old will be rejected.

Unacceptable Specimen Conditions

Cord blood, neonatal specimens, cadaver specimens, heat-inactivated specimens, or body fluids such as saliva, urine, amniotic fluid, pleural fluid or plasma. Specimens with obvious microbial contamination, lipemic or are grossly hemolyzed.

Methodology

The qualitative determination of specific IgG to Rubeola (measles) virus is an indirect chemiluminescence immunoassay (CLIA).
