Physician: FAQs

1.) Question: Can a client request on the requisition that a copy of the report be sent to the patient?

No. We have no way to enter this information into our computer system.

2.) Question: What can I expect for turnaround times?

Pap smears: 4-7 days after receipt in the laboratory; Breast biopsies: 24 hours after receipt in the laboratory*; Prostate biopsies: 24 hours after receipt in the laboratory*; HPV: HPV testing is performed every other workday evening. Once a Pap is finaled and sent for HPV testing, it will be placed on the next run (either that evening or the following evening depending upon the HPV testing schedule). Results of the HPV testing will be available by the following morning. Her-2/neu: Testing done and reports signed out every Thursday, ER/PR 24 hours. Please note:* Additional testing may delay final results 24-48 hours

3.) Question: What is the timeline for requesting HPV testing on Pap smears?

HPV can be requested up to three weeks after the date of collection of the Pap smear. Submit an Additional Testing Form.

4.) Question: Does InCyte process blood?  Perform drug testing?

No, these are clinical laboratory tests that are not done by InCyte Pathology. Pathology Associates Medical Laboratories (PAML) provide these services to our community.

5.) Question: How do I request additional testing on a specimen?

InCyte Pathology is required to have written orders to perform testing.  A "Request for Additional Testing" form is located on this website [link to that form].  Please complete the form and fax to (509) 340-1111.

6.) Question: Where else can I find Inland Imaging specimen reports if they are not at InCyte?

If these did not come to InCyte Pathology, they are most generally at Sacred Heart Medical Center or Holy Family Hospital, depending upon the specimen type.

7.) Question: What is the number for PAML Courier Services?

PAML Courier service can be requested at (509) 755-8998.

8.) Question: What are my options for transporting a STAT specimen to InCyte?

Please call PAML Courier Services (755-8998) and tell them you have a STAT.

9.) Question: What is the process for sending a case for outside consult? Where are cases sent? When can I expect a completed report?

Difficult diagnostic cases or cases where diagnostic consensus within the group cannot be reached are routinely referred to outside experts for consultative opinion. InCyte maintains a list of experts in each field and InCyte routinely sends cases these experts. For each case sent for outside consult, a delay letter is sent to the referring physician on the same day the case is sent via FedEx Overnight to the outside consultant.  When the outside consultant's report is received at InCyte, the InCyte report is finaled as soon as possible. A copy of the outside consultant's report will be faxed to the referring physician along with InCyte's report. At that time, a letter is sent to the patient, explaining that the case was sent for outside consultation and that they will be receiving an additional bill from this outside consultant. The outside consultant's name and address is provided to the patient. The length of time it takes to receive a report back from an outside consultant varies (depending on additional testing or the schedule of the outside consultant), but consultant reports are usually back within two weeks.

10.) Question: What are the specialties of the individual pathologists at InCyte?
